
William “Bill” Joseph Urban, 87, of Owensboro, KY passed away Friday, March 29, 2024 at his home. He was born July 22, 1936 in Owensboro, KY to the late Joseph and Dorothy Urban. Bill was a retired police officer of 22 years with the West Palm Beach (FL) Police Department. He also retired from Kentucky State Parks as a beloved tour guide and captain of the Lady of the Lake of Rough River Lake. Bill was a Boy Scout Leader, Girl Scout Leader and had worked at Disney World. A proud first generation American who deeply loved America and had great respect for his German heritage which he kept alive in our family through his love of cooking, especially cookies. He loved to fish, golf, camp, travel, spend time in nature, and woodworking. A man of not only many talents but also many names Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle Purple Guy, Papa.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Joann; brother, Carl Urban; and a sister, Joann Robertson.
He is survived by his adoring wife of 59 years, Mary Sue Robertson Urban; five devoted children, Kathy Noe (Dale Snell) of Groveland Florida, Joe Urban of Falls of Rough Kentucky, Karl Urban (Jennifer Urban) of Lantana, Florida, Michelle Urban (Al Tregenza) of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and Katrina Kuegel (Scott Kuegel) of Owensboro; 17 grandchildren; 22 (and one on the way) great-grandchildren; siblings, Ted Urban of Maine, Lil Joering (Jim) of Ohio, Bob Urban of New Hampshire, Jim Urban (Gail) of Virginia, Helen Pagano (Seb) of Illinois, and Mary Bradley of Illinois; and many many adored nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
