Local insurance agent Tim Hood joined forces with The Wilkins Agency from Virginia to open an independent agency in Owensboro in 2015. He later bought out his partner and changed the name to T.H.E. Insurance; they’ve been growing ever since.

Despite the industry’s record losses in recent years due to catastrophic events, including the EF4 Tornado that destroyed parts of western Kentucky in 2021, Hood said the agency continues showing annual growth. He attributes that success to the community’s support and his local team.

“We’ve been growing every year and continuing to add staff. We have an excellent team in place,” Hood said. “We’re posting annual numbers yearly; last year was the best production we’ve seen since we opened.”

As an independent agency, Hood and his team source information from various providers, including Erie Insurance. He said Erie is an A+ rated Fortune 500 company, and T.H.E. Insurance Agency remains a top-15 producer based on premiums.

“We’re in a good place because Erie has only been in Kentucky since 2015,” Hood said. “Because we’re still a relatively small player in the state, we didn’t take a major hit with the many natural disasters and the lasting impact of the pandemic.”

T.H.E. is a play on words and an acronym for Timothy Hood Enterprises. He said the name is fitting as they specialize in commercial and personal property and casualty coverage.

“We pride ourselves on protecting people’s assets,” he said. “We work with individuals and families at different stages of life and ensure they have the appropriate coverage.”

Hood added that a focal point of the agency is education.

“We want to continue to grow, but we’re big on educating our clients,” he said. “It’s not just about price, although we’re very competitive. We want people to understand what their coverage does and how it works. When someone walks away, regardless of if they do business with us, they will be educated.”

The agency is a member of the Owensboro Realtor’s Association, the Green River Building Industry Association, and the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce. They take pride in supporting the community by helping nonprofits like Fresh Start for Women and sponsoring events like the Autism Awareness Walk.
