Calm weather paved the way for a game day that saw Apollo, Daviess County, and Trinity all get wins while Owensboro suffered a loss.
AHS 4, Madisonville-North Hopkins 0
Apollo hosted Madisonville at home where they secured a 4-0 win.
Apollo took an early lead with a run in the opening inning before the game went into a 4-inning stalemate. Apollo couldn’t extend their lead during this time, but Mollie Julian led the defense to keep Madisonville from scoring. Julian racked up 10 strikeouts while allowing just 3 hits across 7 innings. The E-gals scored 3 runs in the sixth inning to give themselves a 4-run cushion going into the final inning. AHS shut down Madisonville to close out the 4-0 win.
At the plate, Macy Calhoun had an RBI and scored 1 run, and Abbie Butterworth had 1 RBI as well. Arianna Ramirez and Taylor Clark both scored 1 run as well.
DCHS 13, Evansville Mater Dei, IN 5
Daviess County traveled to Evansville to take on Mater Dei in a high scoring 13-5 victory.
DC opened the scoring with 2 runs in the first inning, and Mater Dei got 1 of those runs back in the second inning. After a scoreless third, the Lady Panthers caught fire with 6 runs in the top of the fourth inning. Mater Dei scored 1 run in the bottom of the inning before the next innings went scoreless. With the score at 8-2, DC had a final 5-run performance in the seventh, and Mater Dei scored 3 runs in the bottom of the inning to close out the game at 13-5.
On the mound, Kamryn Timmons racked up 12 strikeouts and allowed 2 hits across 5 innings, and Sophia Cain allowed 1 hit in 2 innings. At the plate, Annie Newman had a big game as she hit a home run, a double, had 6 RBIs, 3 hits and scored 3 runs. Shelby Bennett had 2 RBIs and scored 2 runs. Briey Henry had an RBI with 2 scored runs, and Lilah Morris, Callie Smith, Moly Hancock and Kylie Clark all had 1 RBI. Sadie Morris scored 3 runs, Danielle Beckwith scored 2 and Makayla Rowan scored 1 as well.
Hancock Co. 8, OHS 3
Owensboro took to the road and faced off against Hancock County in a game that saw them fall 8-3.
Hancock opened scoring a run in the first inning. OHS was a big disadvantage early on as Hancock scored 5 runs in the second inning to make the score 6-0. Hancock added another run to their lead in the third before Owensboro got on the board with 3 runs in the top of the fourth. Hancock scored 1 run in the bottom of the inning to close out the game at 8-3.
On the mound for OHS was Alyssa Rhineburger who had 2 strikeouts and allowed 5 hits across 3 innings, and Railey Scott who allowed 3 hits across 2 innings. At the plate, Ellington Embry hit a home run, had 3 RBIs and 1 run scored. Hessi Johnson scored a run as well.
THS 1, Ohio Co. 0
Trinity’s tight defense helped them secure a close 1-0 win over Ohio County.
The two teams locked horns at the start of the game, and the score remained stagnant for 4 innings thanks to both defenses. Sophie Hatfield racked up 10 strikeouts and allowed 4 hits across 7 innings to help keep Ohio scoreless throughout the game. In the fifth inning an error on a fly ball allowed Emma Mills to cross home plate for what would go on to be the game-winning run. At the plate, Sarah Payne and Madison McDaniel both had 3 hits.
