Matt Mason, the current principal at Daviess County High School, has been named the new Assistant Superintendent of Student Services for Daviess County Public Schools. He will fill the position left vacant by Charles Broughton, who was recently named the next DCPS Superintendent.
Mason will assume the role’s responsibilities, including serving on the superintendent’s senior leadership team and leading the student services leadership team. He will also coordinate the district’s compliance with school enrollment and attendance laws and serve as custodian of all student data and records.
Mason will work with principals, teachers, and parents/guardians in response to attendance or social/behavioral concerns. This work includes identifying potential truancy and dropout issues and implementing steps and programs to prevent and mitigate those issues.
Mason will also provide direction and oversight of the DCPS physical and mental health programs. He will also serve as the district safety coordinator, overseeing and working collaboratively with the Daviess County Public Schools Police Department.
Additionally, Mason will serve as the district athletic director ensuring schools and coaches are compliant with the KHSAA. He will also further provide direction and oversight of the DCPS Transportation Department.
“I am excited to combine my leadership and athletic experience to serve all stakeholders in the DCPS community,” Mason said. “I’ve worked with Charley as a teacher and a school administrator and am excited to serve on the superintendent’s senior leadership team.”
Mason currently serves as the DCHS principal, a role he has been in since 2011. He previously served as a DCHS assistant principal from 2009-2011 and athletic director the previous year. He began his career at DCPS as the DCHS social studies teacher in 2002 and coached baseball and softball for DCHS.
Broughton said there were other strong candidates for this position, but Mason’s background and experience were an outstanding fit for this role.
“Mr. Mason has demonstrated high levels of success and strong leadership throughout his professional career and will bring that same commitment to excellence to this important district role,” Broughton said.
