Owensboro’s newest senior care center, BoldAge PACE, celebrated its grand opening Wednesday.
BoldAge PACE, located at 2050 East Parrish Avenue, provides all the services a client would receive if they lived in a nursing home, but the seniors can remain in the comfort of their home or living facility.
The goal of PACE is to help older adults with complex physical or medical needs live independently in their homes and communities. PACE integrates the delivery of health care, supportive services, and socialization to people who would otherwise require nursing home-level care. It was created to provide older individuals, their families, caregivers, and professional healthcare providers with the flexibility to meet the participants’ needs in the community.
Regional Executive Director Bobbi Runyon said the staff ultimately becomes like family as they help ad interact with the seniors and their loved ones.
“It is so important to be part of that last chapter of their lives and build that relationship. We really get to know these participants and their families inside and out. Our aides are there, they’re coming here, we’re calling them, we’re checking in on them, so we really build that relationship,” Runyon said.
BoldAge PACE services include transportation to appointments, utilizing dieticians, clinical needs, occupational physical therapy, and socializing with other clients in the day room. Runyon said many participants can disenroll should they be admitted to Hospice Care, yet many opt to continue.
“I can’t say enough about it because the relationships we build are not in any other medical model you can find. Most PACE participants are with us for 3-5 years, maybe even longer, so we’re close. We’re their family,” she said.
Runyon said clients must be at least 55 years old, have a level of care assessment by the state, and live in the service area to enroll in BoldAge PACE.
Most BoldAge PACE participants can enroll in the program at low or no cost. Specific requirements and costs vary by state and participant’s housing needs.
