The Kentucky Aviation Association (KAA) has elected Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport (OWB) Director Tristan Durbin as this president.
The association exists to foster and promote aviation facilities, safety, industry, business, recreation, and education in Kentucky. Durbin joined the board two years ago when the annual conference came to Owensboro, and he was asked to join the planning committee.
“This is something I’m really proud of and excited about,” Durbin said. “Our primary goal and mission is advocacy for airports across the state. We work closely with legislators to advocate and educate.”
Shortly after joining the association, Durbin was asked to serve on the board, which he did for two years. Last week, another board member nominated him for president, and after the votes were tallied, he won.
Durbin emphasized the impact airports have across the state and how the association consistently supports their efforts.
“The infrastructure across the state is such a vast undertaking from a financial standpoint,” Durbin said. “There’s a large advocacy effort to help grow the future of aviation across the entire state.”
He elaborated on the progress made at OWB and said this new position further solidifies the regional airport’s “seat at the table.”
“We have a fantastic airport with some amazing infrastructure. We’re one of only five airports across the state with a control tower. I’m proud of what we do and have,” he said. “This position will keep our finger to the pulse and allow us to keep up with the current landscape as it relates to changes in aviation across the state and country.”
