A 19-year-old has been charged following an investigation into a firearm discharge earlier this month, according to the Owensboro Police Department.

According to OPD, on July 11 officers responded to a firearm discharge in the area of West 9th Street and Moreland Avenue.

“Following the incident that night, a thorough investigation by our detectives led to one suspect,” OPD said in a Facebook post on Tuesday evening. “On July 23, 2024, while on patrol an OPD officer conducted a traffic stop for a moving violation and the suspect was a passenger in that vehicle.”

Detectives responded and Jordan Hampton, 19, was charged with first-degree wanton endangerment and first-degree criminal mischief, according to OPD.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing, “with the likelihood of additional charges and arrests.”
