Carla Jean “Ninny” Mathis, 72, of Owensboro, passed away Friday, August 2, 2024 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born January 22, 1952 in Owensboro to the late Monroe Jack Edward Frashure and Mary Ellen Belcher Frashure. Ninny was a retired Special Ed teacher assistant for Owensboro Board of Education where she was known as the “Pencil Lady”. She was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. Ninny enjoyed watching the Game Show network and was a huge fan of Derrick Henry and Steph Curry. She loved drinking buttermilk with Ruffles and Hoffman’s Cheese. Ninny adored blowing bubbles with her great-grandsons.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Deborah Rose Wilson; and a brother, Charlie Frashure.
She is survived by her husband, of 53 years, Jewel Mathis; two daughters, Kristina Howard (John) and Charlene Brown (Rev. Timmy); sons, Josh Horn (Tiffany) and Terry Mathis (Tammy); grandchildren, Frankie Greenwell-Howard, Brandon Lee Greenwell, Rev. Noah Brown, Scott Mathis, Jacob Brown, Emma Mathis, John Howard Jr., Dallas Howard, and Stormie Howard; three great-grandchildren, Brayden Horn, Baylee Horn, and Kolton Horn; and her fur baby, Bella Jane.
Funeral services will be at noon on Friday, August 9, 2024 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Service will be live-streamed at www.davisfunerahome.com. Burial will follow in Nickel Ridge Cemetery. Visitation is from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
