DCSO: 6 pounds of marijuana found in car during stop, warrant uncovers more drugs at residence

A Tell City man was arrested after 6 pounds of marijuana were found in a vehicle during a stop on U.S. 60 East on Tuesday, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office. A subsequent search found additional “large quantities” of marijuana and mushrooms, officials said.

According to a release, DCSO investigators, Kentucky State Police, Perry County Sheriff’s Office, and Tell City Police Department conducted a joint investigation in Daviess County and Tell City following a traffic stop on Tuesday afternoon. 

At approximately 1 p.m., DCSO patrol deputies working a drug interdiction detail on U.S. 60 East made a traffic stop near the KY 231 Natcher Bridge, according to the release. 

During the stop, a DCSO K9 alerted on the vehicle for the presence of narcotics. A search of the vehicle revealed approximately 6 pounds of marijuana, including a box of other THC products such as vape cartridges, and a large quantity of psilocybin mushrooms,” according to DCSO. 

As a result of this discovery, a search warrant was obtained for the suspect’s house in Tell City where Indiana law enforcement investigators located “additional large quantities of marijuana, psilocybin mushrooms, and U.S. currency,” officials said.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected.

Colin Johns, 38, was arrested and taken to the Daviess County Detention Center. He is currently on probation in Indiana and was wearing an ankle monitor at the time of his arrest, according to DCSO. He faces multiple charges in Kentucky as well as Indiana following this operation. 

According to DCSO, his charges include:

  • Trafficking in Marijuana Greater than 5 Pounds – First Offense
  • Trafficking in a Controlled Substance, 2nd Degree, 1st Offense
  • Failure to Produce Insurance Card 
  • Expired Registration Plate
