The suspect involved in a nearly 5-hour standoff Tuesday afternoon has died from injuries from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Owensboro Police Department.

Officials have identified the person as Timothy R. Roberts, 46, of Owensboro.

According to OPD, Roberts was given life-saving measures on the scene by the OPD Emergency Response team members and AMR before being transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

An autopsy performed this morning by the Daviess County Coroner’s Office concluded that Roberts died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to OPD.

“This is an ongoing and joint operation with DEA and IRS and we expect to have a full press briefing sometime next week,” OPD said in a release. “We appreciate the community’s understanding and patience as the investigation is evolving.”

According to officials, OPD executed multiple search and arrest warrants throughout the city on Tuesday as part of an ongoing joint investigation with the DEA and IRS. More police activity was observed Wednesday morning, with officials saying it was related to the investigation.

Just before noon Tuesday, law enforcment attempted to execute an arrest warrant at a residence at the intersection of Farmview Drive and Todd Court but became involved in a standoff with one individual who barricaded himself inside a small camper in the driveway at the location.

“We were involved in negotiations with the individual for about 5 hours,” OPD Major M. Staples said during a press conference following the incident. “During that time there were multiple times that he appeared that he was going to give up. We came to the door and we maintained a good dialogue with him throughout this time. Unfortunately, the incident concluded when he was taken to the hospital with a self-inflicted wound.”
