A major cycling event returns to Owensboro this weekend with the Bluegrass Century Bicycle Ride. Nearly 200 riders are expected to be on the roads of Daviess County and McLean County on Saturday.
The ride will be held on Saturday and will offer three different routes for riders of all ages and experience. Riders under 18 must be accompanied by an adult and must sign a minor registration form.
The event will offer a century route (100 miles), a metric century route (69 miles), and a 32-mile route. All riders will roll out at 7 a.m. and will be welcomed with fully stocked rest stops along the route no matter which distance a rider chooses.
Online registration will remain open until August 20 at 11:59 p.m. (click here to register). In-person registration will be available Friday from 4:30-6 p.m. and Saturday beginning at 6 a.m. at Crosspointe Baptist Church (550 Worthington Road).
“Once again, the Bluegrass Century is back and has grown exponentially over the past 3 years,” said Jared Revlett, one of the organizers of the event. “This ride not only benefits the community as a whole through its economic impact bringing riders from all across the country, but also benefits the youth in our community through our partnership with Young Life.”
The ride will start and end at Crosspointe Baptist Church, located at 550 Worthington Road. Parking will be available on site.
This year’s event will again benefit Young Life of Owensboro. The Young Life Foundation is a nonprofit organization that started in Owensboro in 2011 and focuses on building mentoring relationships with middle and high school students in the local community.
