Richard “Rick” Anderson, 72, peacefully passed away on September 11, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 14, 1952 in Louisville, KY, to the late Eugene and Jeanette Day-Anderson, Rick graduated from Shelby County High School in 1970 and served in the Army following his graduation. He spent over 25 years as a paramedic with Commonwealth Ambulance in Louisville and Yellow Ambulance in Owensboro.
Rick was married to Glenda Powell Anderson of Jeffersontown, KY, for over 53 years. He was a devoted father to his three children: the late Scott Anderson, who passed away in 2015, Dianna Wilson (wife of Robert Wilson), and Gene Anderson (husband of Heather Anderson). Rick’s greatest joy came from his three grandchildren—Adrian, Anthony, and Alexis—whom he lovingly referred to as his “baby girl.” He celebrated every milestone in their lives with immense pride and affection.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Becky; and his dear aunt, Linda Carol Pickard-Hutcherson from Bloomington, IN, was like a sister to him. Rick was fortunate to receive a double-lung transplant, which allowed him to thrive for over ten years.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Veterans Clinic in Owensboro for their exceptional care and support.
Visitation will be held at from 3 to 6 p.m. on Monday, September 16, 2024 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. A private graveside service will be at Resthaven Cemetery in Louisville at a later date for immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the KY Donate Life organization in Rick’s memory to support organ transplantation and awareness. Donations can be made at: Donate Life KY (https://www.donatelifeky.org/financial-contributions/)
