Crews spent a little more than an hour battling a fire on Carlton Drive on Monday afternoon. Authorities said a person was burning brush and the nearby field of tall grass caught fire, spreading nearly 6 acres. There were no injuries.
According to fire officials on scene, someone was burning brush piles in a field on Carlton Drive, across from Diamond Lanes South and behind Iron Jungle Family Fitness (which is located at the corner of Carlton Drive and JR Miller Boulevard.
Crews responded at 3:27 p.m. and spent about an hour working to contain the fire. One patch of trees did have some fire damage, but the house located in the trees was not damaged. A nearby barn also did not sustain damage.
Crews used water, brush trucks, and help from a farmer with a tractor and disc to contain the spread.
Agencies responding were the Daviess County, Airport-Sorgho, Masonville, Mosleyville, Utica, and Owensboro fire departments, the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, the Owensboro Police Department, and the Kentucky Division of Forestry.
