OPD: Shooting suspect turns himself in Tuesday

Update: September 24, 6:30 p.m. — Dequinya Adams came to the Owensboro Police Department to turn himself in on Tuesday, according to a release. Adams was arrested and the warrant was served, charging him with one count of first-degree assault and three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment. Adams was also charged with one count of first-degree criminal mischief in relation to the same investigation. He has been lodged in the Daviess County Detention Center.

Original story: September 21, 10:30 a.m. — Police are asking for assistance in locating the suspect in a shooting that left one person with non-life-threatening injuries on September 19. The incident is believed to be isolated with a targeted victim, but the suspect should be considered armed and dangerous and should not be confronted, according to the Owensboro Police Department.

According to a release, officers responded to the 600 block of Hathaway Street shortly after 6 p.m. on September 19 to reports of a shooting. The victim in the shooting was a 26-year-old male who was a passenger in a vehicle driving through the area.

“While driving on Hathaway Street multiple people were outside when one suspect, identified as Dequinya Adams, shot at the vehicle multiple times. One of the bullets fired from the gun struck the victim in the neck. The vehicle the victim was a passenger in continued to drive and went to the hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Detectives believe that the vehicle was targeted and occupants were known to Adams,” according to OPD.

Detectives have obtained an arrest warrant for Adams, 18, on the charges of first-degree assault and three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment. OPD is asking for the public’s assistance in Adams’ whereabouts.

“At this time it is believed to be an isolated event. … Adams is considered armed and dangerous. Please do not confront him but immediately contact OPD by calling 911 if you see him,” OPD said.
