
Mrs. Margaret Jeroldine Lawhorn, age 97, of 540 Market St., Lewisport, passed away Tuesday afternoon, September 17th at The Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in Owensboro. Mrs. Lawhorn was born July 12, 1927, in Louisville, Kentucky, Jefferson County, the daughter of the late Walter Joseph and Avis Lee Richmond Beavin. Mrs. Lawhorn also was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. James Alton Lawhorn, a brother, Dr. Edward Beavin; and six grandchildren, Rebecca, David, infant baby Carden, James, Ryan and John Carden.
Mrs. Margaret Lawhorn is survived by four daughters, Bonita Schwab (Frank) of Franklin, Sheryl Lott (Lucian) of Owensboro, Janet Carden (Tim) of Henderson and Judy Lawhorn (Joyce) of LaGrange; six grandchildren, Michelle Antle, Laura Doty, Pamela Ingram, Christina Wissing, Beverly Estes and Andrea Simpson; 15 great-grandchildren, Alivia and Houston Antle, Madaleigh and Macy Doty, Addison and Jaxson Smith, a little girl (Blayke) expected in February 2025, and two step great-grandchildren; Zealand and Emersyn Ingram, Katilyn Wade, Kelley Wissing, James and Bailey Estes, Lydia Simpson and Levi Adkisson; 3 great-great grandchildren survive; Harper and Hayden Wade, and Oaklee Estes and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Margaret J. Lawhorn retired after 42 years as an Elementary School Teacher in the Daviess, Hopkins, Breckinridge and Hancock County areas. She was a devoted member of the Phi Delta Kappa Sorority. Her graduate studies and accomplished requirements include Lindsey Wilson College, Kentucky Wesleyan College, Union College and Peabody College. Mrs. Lawhorn shared her gifts and talents, serving as the pianist and/or organist alongside Rev. Lawhorn in ministry, at each Pastoral appointment.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Sunday, September 29th at the Lewisport United Methodist Church with burial following in the Lewisport Cemetery. Mrs. Lawhorn’s family will greet guests from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, September 28th at the Gibson & Son Funeral Home in Lewisport, and after 1 p.m. Sunday at the Lewisport United Methodist Church.
