Betty Sue Buchanan Skaggs

Betty Sue Buchanan Skaggs, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother completed her earthly journey on September 23, 2024 and entered the joy of her Lord. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Owensboro. It is well, it is well with her soul.

Betty Sue Buchanan Skaggs was born November 7, 1935. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Jenny Lou Buchanan; brother, Donald Buchanan; and a granddaughter, Blaine D’Che Stokes.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Rev. Franklin Skaggs; son: Terry (Susan) Skaggs of Owensboro; daughters, Dee Ann Stokes of Calvert City and Connie (Billy) Evans of Benton; grandson, Hunter (Haylee) Evans; granddaughters, Paige (Daniel) Adams and Sarah Jo Hamblin; great-grandchildren, Keylee, Quintin, and Pierce Hamblin, Reed and Millie Adams, and Wrynlee Evans; sisters-in-law, Betty Skaggs and June Buchanan; and closest friend, Norma Williams, and a lifetime of friends.

Betty Sue Buchanan and Franklin Dee Skaggs were united in marriage on September 3, 1955. She was a graduate of Madisonville High School, Class of 1953, and a graduate of Draughn’s Business College, Class of 1955.

Betty was a devoted wife and was faithful to the Pastoral ministry of her husband. She was dearly loved by the churches they served and admired as a dedicated Christian lady. She spent many years teaching in Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. She was a wonderful wife and mother who excelled in every area of life. Her children praise her! A beautiful life came to an end, she died as she lived, everyone’s friend. She will always be remembered. She was loved by so many, and we will never forget. To her many friends, we express our sincere thanks for your many prayers and acts of kindness. Betty had a wonderful attitude about life. She was treated for cancer three times. She had a great appreciation for each new day and was thankful for God’s many blessings. A special thanks to each of her children for their many acts of kindness and care. Thanks for always being there for her.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Betty will be laid to rest at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Grapevine Cemetery in her hometown of Madisonville, Kentucky. Visitation is from 2 to 7 on Friday and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
