Apollo flexed their scoring ability in an impressive win over Trinity (Whitesville) while Daviess County held off McLean County.
Apollo 77, Trinity 58
After only scoring 12 points in Saturday’s road win over Marion County, Landon Henning exploded for 27 points to fuel the Eagles past Trinity 77-58. Luke Jarboe hit three threes to go along with his 16 points, while Tate Powers finished with 13 points.
Ian Roby was on fire behind the arc for the Raiders, hitting six threes to go along with his team-high 19 points. Will Hernandez scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half, while Connor Hatfield finished with 12 points.
“Overall, I was pleased with our effort. I felt like our guys played hard the entire game,” Trinity head coach Nathan West said. “However, we have to be more attentive to details. We didn’t execute key parts of our game plan and I felt like Apollo did a great job of taking advantage of our lack of execution, especially in the second quarter.
Daviess County 63, McLean County 51
Jonathan Moss hit five threes to go along with his game-high 22 points as the Panthers emerged victorious against McLean County 63-51. DeAaron Watkins was second on the team in points with 19 points, while Jaxon Brown (14) and Joe Varble (8) rounded out the teams scoring.
“I thought we shared the ball well,” Daviess County head coach Neil Hayden said. “We had 19 assists on 22 field goals. It wasn’t our best defensive performance, but we figured out a way to win.”
For the Cougars, Jay Lee led the way with 14 points, while Gavin Mauzy added 12 points.
“We played pretty well. With their size advantage inside we tried to keep them out of the lane,” McLean County head coach Darren Lynam said. “They hit 11 threes. They never could run away and hide from us. We played hard all night and kept coming back to close it to five. We just couldn’t get over the hump.”
