The Daviess County Public Schools Board of Education has accepted bids totaling approximately $9.15 million for the renovation of the district’s new central office building. The renovation project, overseen by Alliance Corporation, was originally expected to cost an estimated $12 million.

In June 2023, DCPS purchased for just more than $5 million the 11.62-acre property that previously housed U.S. Bank at the corner of Frederica Street and Southtown Boulevard. The facility will be called the DCPS School Support Center, and it will consolidate district personnel currently spread across five locations including the current central office.

The renovation involves completely overhauling the building’s interior, transforming it from a cubicle-based design to one featuring dedicated offices and hallways.

Alliance Corporation implemented a cost-saving strategy by dividing the project into multiple bid packages rather than awarding it to a single contractor. This approach resulted in competitive bidding and reduced overall costs.

Of the roughly $9.15 million accepted in bids, $7 million was allocated for contracts and $2 million for materials. District officials reported a savings of approximately $127,000 in sales tax through owner-direct purchase orders.

District facilities are funded exclusively through Building Fund dollars, which are restricted for construction, renovation, and capital improvements. These funds cannot be used for operational costs such as salaries or supplies.
