Loretta Mae Newton, age 84 of McQuady, KY passed away January 15, 2025, at Hardinsburg Nursing and Rehab. She was born in Breckinridge County on November 2, 1940, daughter of the late Owen and Lora Limer Mattingly. Loretta was a member of Corinth Baptist Church. She worked in the Breckinridge County School System for many years in various departments – bus driver, cafeteria staff and as a teacher’s aide. She and her husband, Bud, raised a BIG garden and she spent many hours canning vegetables. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed reading, sewing and quilting.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Carl Mattingly and his wife Alma and her brother-in-law Mike Hebert.
Loretta is survived by Shelby “Bud” Newton, her husband of 63 years.
2 children: Tommy Newton (Tracy) of Woodburn, KY and Libby Harris (Kevin) of Lawrenceburg, KY
3 grandchildren: Shelby Turner (Justin), Whitney Criswell (Jordan) and Cameron Harris (Danielle)
6 great grandchildren: Celia, Olivia, Jacob, Lizzy, Hannah and Caleb
1 sister: Betty Hebert of Leesburg, FL
Funeral services will be held at Corinth Baptist Church in McQuady, KY on Monday, January 20, 2025, at 11 AM with burial in the St. Mary of the Woods Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home on Sunday, January 19, 2025, from 2:30 – 6 PM and Monday at the church after 9 AM. All times are central.
