Gary Dale Daugherty, 77, of Owensboro, KY passed away on February 10, 2025, at Specialty Select Hospital. Gary was born in Sorgho on January 20, 1948, to the late Earl and Lillian Sue Bowlds Daugherty.
Gary was a dedicated and selfless individual who touched the lives of many through his active involvement and contributions to various local organizations. A proud member of St. Pius X, Gary spent countless hours volunteering and giving back to his faith community. He was known for his tireless efforts on the St. Pius cooking team. Gary was a dedicated Sergeant in the Marine Corp serving during Vietnam. Gary was deeply committed to helping veterans and their families. He was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and served as the driver coordinator for the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), ensuring veterans had the support they needed. He also worked diligently with the Toys for Tots program, bringing joy to countless children during the holiday season.
Above all, Gary was a loving family man, always putting family first. He cherished his role as a parent and grandparent, finding immense joy in watching his grandchildren grow and thrive.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his siblings, Ronald (Barb), Darrell, Dorothy, Dennis, Jerry (Dawn), Earl Wayne and Theresa.
Gary is survived by his wife, Debbie Sturgeon Daugherty; his children, Holly Lynn Pantle, Zachary Dale Daugherty (Wendy), Jamie Marie King (Michael); his grandchildren Glen “Patrick” Archey (Caroline), Abigail Nicole Daugherty (Griffin), Grace Lynn Archey, Michael Nolan King, Elizabeth Marie King, and Reece Dale Daugherty; his siblings, Nancy (the late Jim), Lee “Pixie” (the late Jack), Rita (LaWanna). Dave (Eva), Mike, Jeff (Andy), and Sue Ann; his in-laws Bob, Julia (Byron), and Lisa (Gary); along with numerous adoring nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mass of a Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025, at St. Pius X with Father John Paul Mang officiating. Inurnment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to visit at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home and Crematory on Friday, February 14, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
