Mary Catherine Stewart (88) of Owensboro passed away at her home in the presence of loved ones on February 15th, 2025. Mary was born April 19th, 1936 in Muhlenberg County to Samuel and Mabel Mathis Daugherty. After retiring from Green River Home Health, she worked part time at Ohio County Hospital. She was fiercely independent and could do anything from gardening, seamstress and quilting, home repairs, reupholstering furniture, cooking . She was known for being incredibly fashionable. She was a caregiver of all and was always the neighborhood grandma.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her sons Danny Ray Stewart and James Emmett Stewart, her brother, Robert Daugherty, and sisters Wilma Daugherty, Virginia Gregory, Barbara Sheehan, and Della Snedaker, her granddaughters Catherine McKinney and Jessica Hundley.
She is survived by a son, Phillip Andrew Dugard of Thomasville GA, and daughters Jo Barnett (Delmar), Judy Posch (Jim), Catherine Hundley, and Susan Rohr (Mark) of Owensboro, Ky. As well as her daughter in law Tammy Stewart, Owensboro, KY, a brother Elbert Daugherty of Nauvoo AL, sisters Martine Bevil of Owensboro KY, Louise Rodgers of Canton GA, and Jo Butler of Rydal GA. Additionally, 18 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 11 great great grandchildren. Along with so many more that called her Grandma.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 200p.m. at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville with burial following at Elmwood Cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation will be on Saturday, February 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville, KY.
