Darrell “Hambone” Hamilton, 73, of Owensboro, passed away May 24, 2019 at his home. Darrell was born May 13, 1946 in Livermore, to the late William (Bill) and Rita Wood Hamilton. He graduated from Owensboro High School in 1964, served in the United States Army, belonged to the local VFW Post #696, and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Arie #4168. Darrell was self-employed and ran Hamilton Lawn Service and was a co-owner of Owensboro Tree and Landscaping Service for 30 years with his late wife Ardie. He loved to play golf, watch movies, and enjoyed reading the newspaper every day from front to back. Darrell loved to spend time with his many friends, family, and his dear grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Ardis Lea Hanna Hamilton in 2018.
Darrell is survived by his daughters, Sarah Jane Jones (Gerald), Heather Hamilton, Kimberly Hamilton (Samuel) and Holly Hamilton all of Owensboro; a son, Scott Rhodes (Leah) of Owensboro; 20 grandchildren all of Owensboro; 1 great-grandchild; a sister, Brenda Porter; a half-sister, Peggy Dowlen; and a niece and nephew.
The Funeral service for Darrell “Hambone” Hamilton will be 2 PM, Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Dr. Dennis McFadden officiating. Visitation will be from 10 until time of service on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Field of Honor at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
