List: Storm shelters that will be open Friday-Saturday

According to the Daviess County Emergency Management Agency, a handful of churches will open tonight and/or tomorrow to offer shelter during the severe weather, which includes a tornado threat. Here’s the latest information.

The National Weather Service is warning of two rounds of potentially severe storms that could impact the region Friday and Saturday, with the first wave expected to bring damaging winds, large hail, and the possibility of tornadoes.

As of 2 p.m., the following locations were listed as shelter options by DCEMA:

St. Stephen Cathedral
610 Locust Street
Friday night: Open from 11 p.m. until threat has passed
Saturday: Not open

Yellow Creek Baptist Church
5741 KY 144
Friday night: Will open if/when the tornado siren goes off
Saturday: Will open if/when the tornado siren goes off

Third Baptist Church
527 Allen Street
Friday night: Not open
Saturday: Open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

First Baptist Church
230 JR Miller Boulevard
Friday night: Open from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Saturday: Not open

Owensboro Christian Church – Entrance A
2818 New Hartford Road
Friday night: Open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For those planning to utilize one of these shelters, DCEMA officials recommend going there when a Tornado Watch is issued rather than waiting until a Tornado Warning is issued.
