The Foundation for Daviess County Public Schools has launched “Readers to Leaders,” a new initiative bringing community volunteers into elementary classrooms to foster a love of reading among students.

The first Community Reading Day took place at Audubon Elementary School on Wednesday, with local business leaders and public officials reading age-appropriate books to students.

“Bringing community members into our classrooms to share their love of reading helps spark a lifelong passion for learning in our students,” said Emmy Woosley, executive director of the Foundation for Daviess County Public Schools. “It’s a powerful way to show our children that their community supports them and values their education.”

The initiative aims to strengthen connections between the community and Daviess County Public Schools while encouraging young students to engage in storytelling.

The foundation plans to expand “Readers to Leaders” to other elementary schools throughout the district.
