Ronald William Welborn

Ronald William Welborn, 79, of Greenville, KY passed away on Monday, April 7th, 2025. He was the son of Oather and Jessie Welborn (both deceased) and leaving a wife of nine and half years, Linda Miller Welborn. Ronald was a member of Joines Chapel Church. Ronald was passionate about his childhood farm and spent many hours exploring the 230 acres of creeks, valleys, caves, and just the beauty of God’s handiwork, with his faithful dog, Pacho. Always striving to keep the farm neat and tidy of any trash or fallen trees.

In his youth, he built a covered wagon that Billy the goat pulled him and his little sister exploring around the farm. In his teen years, he loved shooting his BB gun, hunting, fishing, and often killing a squirrel or rabbit.

He graduated in 1964 Valedictorian of his high school class. Later, he worked for his dad running heavy equipment clearing land as jobs were contracted. He secured a job at the coal mines and worked there and also opened and ran his own company, Welborn’s Garage, until retiring at age 55.

His other passions, he was an avid reader of history and science, he loved telling stories to family and friends, writing poems from his experiences in life, and personal poems for immediate family members.

After retiring at 55, he rode his Harley Davidson Motorcycle on trips with his biker buddies.

His other interests included going dancing, and building and flying his model airplanes. He was a member of the Muhlenberg County model airplane club “The Flying Mules”.

He will always be remembered for his love of family and friends, and his sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Jared William Welborn; stepson, Ronal Miller; Parents, Oather and Jessie Welborn; Two brothers-in-law, Hugh Allison and Oscar Ezell.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, April 11th, at 2:00 PM at Joines Chapel Cemetery in Greenville, KY with Dr. John Galyen officiating. Gary’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for his care.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Welborn; One son, Rodney William Welborn; One step-daughter, Leigh A. Miller; Two sisters, Brenda Allison and Rita Ezell; Step-grandchildren, Brian Tarrants Jr., Keaton Colyer, and Colby Colyer; Step great-grandchildren, Peyton Sutton and Brayden Wheeler; Several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 11th, at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville from 10:00 AM until 1:30 PM.
