Ronnie K. Alderson

It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Helen Pence announce her passing. Helen, as she was known to all, died on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, under the care of the staff of Carmel Home in Owensboro, KY. She was born on September 7, 1931, to the late John and Bessie Aldridge in McLean County.

Helen was a deeply devoted Catholic whose unwavering faith and strong Christian foundation guided every aspect of her life. She embraced her role as a homemaker and was a devoted wife, of 55 years, to William “Bill” H. Pence, Sr, who precedes her in death. Together, they raised five children: Bill Pence, Jr. (Kay), Sheila Pence (Tommy Stillwell), Lisa Pence, Karen Pence, and Michael Pence (Margaret), each of whom carry forward her legacy.

In addition to her children, those left to cherish Helen’s memory include her grandchildren, DeeDee Bundy (Brandon), Shelly Pence, Brian Heep (Jennifer), Jonathan Heep, and Tess Pence, and her great-grandchildren, Olivia Hale, Kaira Bundy, Will Hale, Lily Wells, Tristan Bundy, Avery Heep, and Maya Heep (due in September).

The family extends their deepest gratitude to Dr. Matheis Carrico for his compassionate care, and to dear friends, Bob and Joyce Ballard, Patty Pate, and the late Mary Faulkner and D.B. Blanford, for their unwavering support and presence. A heartfelt thank you also goes to Father Ray Clark, the Carmelite Sisters, and the dedicated staff at the Carmel Home for their kindness, care, and comfort in treating Helen with dignity and respect.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions in Helen’s memory to Carmel Home at 2501 Old Hartford Rd, Owensboro, KY 42303, and/or Spina Bifida Association at 982 Eastern Pkwy # 18, Louisville, KY 40217, in honor of Jonathan Heep.

Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Carmel Home with burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Residents and close friends and family are invited to visitation at Carmel Home, on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
