
Howard James Schleiden Jr., 83, of Owensboro passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. The Pittsburgh, PA native was born February 6, 1942, to the late Howard Schleiden Sr. and Ruth Weller Schleiden. Howard served during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in North Africa. His position as Facility Manager with Ragu brought him to Owensboro over 30 years ago. Being gifted with mechanical skills, Howard was able to fix anything including cars. He was a great outdoorsman who loved nature, feeding birds, and getting out in the woods for deer hunting. Howard was always congenial with a good sense of humor. Most of all, Howard was a Christian who was serious about his faith. He also loved his family and thoroughly enjoyed the times he spent with them.
In addition to his parents, Howard also was preceded in death by his brother, Ken Schleiden.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 47 years, Inge Sartor Schleiden; four children, Evon Montgomery (Craig) of Saxonburg, PA, Wendy Heitzenrater (Dwight) of Slippery Rock, PA, Ronald Schleiden of Pittsburgh, PA, and Werner Gilliam (Amanda) of Kennebunkport, ME; four grandchildren, Justin and Jenna Heitzenrater and Jamie and Mattie Gilliam; siblings, Ruth Ann Schleiden of Allison Park, PA, and Jan Duffy (Dave) of Hudson, OH; sister-in-law, Joan Schleiden of Port Charlotte, FL; numerous nieces and nephews.
The memorial service with military honors will be at 10:00 am Saturday, May 3 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 until 7:00 pm and Saturday from 9:00 am until the time of the service.
