An undercover operation led to the arrest of two people on several charges including trafficking meth at the Cadillac Motel, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office. One individual also faces child endangerment charges after two minors were found in close proximity to unsecured drugs, authorities said.
Charles Glen Hope, 50, and Billie Vasquez, 40, both residents of the Cadillac Motel at 1311 West 2nd Street, were taken into custody after the DCSO Special Investigations Unit executed search warrants at approximately 1 p.m. on April 30, according to a release.
According to sheriff’s officials, the investigation began after multiple community complaints about drug activity at the location. Prior to the arrests, detectives conducted several undercover controlled drug buys from multiple suspects living at the motel, authorities said.
During the search, detectives discovered evidence of what they described as an ongoing drug trafficking operation. Items seized included synthetic marijuana (spice), methamphetamine, prescription pills, packaging materials, U.S. currency, digital scales, glass smoking pipes, drug paraphernalia, and a loaded handgun that had been reported stolen.
The Department of Community Based Services assisted in the operation after investigators found two small children living in an apartment with access to unsecured dangerous drugs, the release says.
Hope and Vasquez face multiple charges including first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine) with a second or greater offense, trafficking in synthetic drugs, first-degree wanton endangerment, third-degree possession of a controlled substance, receiving stolen property, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Several charges carry firearm enhancements.
Vasquez also faces two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor. Hope faced the additional charge of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
Both suspects were transported to the Daviess County Detention Center. Sheriff’s officials indicated this remains an ongoing investigation with additional charges and arrests anticipated.
