Golda Marie Head

Golda Marie Head, 97, of Owensboro passed on to her Heavenly Home on May 6, 2025 at the Heartford House in Owensboro. Marie was born on October 14, 1927 in McLean County to the late Anna Florence Ellis. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who lived a long and very blessed life surrounded by family and friends.

Marie was a homemaker raising her three children and kept many additional children while their parents worked. She had many favorite past times including reading, cooking, and sewing for her family and friends. She always smiled when someone would say her mashed potatoes were the best. Quilting was another favorite hobby, making quilts for herself and family members and helping at Macedonia’s Quilting group. Marie loved to travel with her husband, Bill, traveling in the United States and abroad.

She is survived by two sons, Al Head (Nan) and B. Keith Head of Marietta, Georgia; daughter, Connie Saalwaechter (Larry) of Owensboro; six grandchildren, Holly Maher, Charles Head-Wells, and Kathryn McNeal (Matt) of Hawaii, Chris Saalwaechter (Bobbi) and John Saalwaechter (Jessie) of Owensboro, and Melanie Rust (Cole) of Dresden, TN; seven great-grandchildren, Lily, Matt McNeal of Hawaii, and Jaxon and Kylie Rust of Dresden, TN; three brothers, John Roy Ellis of Beach Grove, Narville Ellis (Gay), of Calhoun and Orville Ellis (Nancy) of Evansville, IN; and a sister, Margaret Dant (Mike) of Beach Grove.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Head, Jr. of 61 years; her mother, Anna Florence Ellis; brother Melvin Dan (infant); and two sisters, Emogene Lofton of Evansville, IN, and Chole Bell Rust of Sacramento, KY.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation is from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Marie will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. We especially want to thank her caregiver, Michelle White. With her assistance, Mom was able to remain at home for many years until additional care was necessary. Also, we would like to thank the staff at the Heartford House Owensboro and the staff at Hillcrest Healthcare of Owensboro.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to the Heartford House, Hospice of Western Kentucky, 3419 Wathens Crossing, Owensboro, KY, 42301.
