Janey Ryn Cary

Janey Hagan Cary, 77, of Owensboro, KY, went home to be with the Lord on May 9, 2025 after a debilitating fight against Alzheimer’s Dementia. She was known best for her beautiful smile, wonderful friendships, and the love of her family. Janey was born on October 19, 1947 to Carmelia Imogene “Jean” and Henry Dennis Hagan in Owensboro, Kentucky. A graduate from Owensboro High School in 1965, Janey had the honor of performing in the high school band as a majorette and was voted “Most Friendly” by her friends and peers in her graduating class.

Following her graduation from OHS, she worked for over 10 years for Bell South Telephone Company. She would go on to work in the Daviess County Public School system for 16 years. She was forever grateful to have met and befriended so many people while working for the school system. Janey loved life to its fullest. She enjoyed watching movies, basketball games and spending time with her family and friends. To those that knew her best, Janey’s true passion in life was her family. She married her husband Larry, “L.D.” Cary on December 31, 1969 and shared 49 years together before his passing in 2019. Janey’s love for her husband, 3 children, 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren was endless. While she often said that her proudest accomplishments in life were her marriage and her children, it is her family who considered her one of theirs. Her light, smile, and loving heart will be missed in a way words cannot be expressed.

Janey was preceded in death by her husband, Larry “L.D.” Cary; parents, Jean Jollay, stepfather Jim Jollay and Dennis Hagan; and brother-in-law Gary Davis. She is survived by her 3 loving children, Paige Cary Drew (Joey) of Evans, Georgia, Drake Cary (Tiffany) of Orlando, Florida, and Jill Taylor (Bruce) of Madisonville, Kentucky; sister Nakoma Decker of Owensboro, Kentucky, brother-in-law Ronnie Cary (Brenda), and sister-in-law Sandra Davis of Greenville, Kentucky; her grandchildren, Cannon Ward, Madeleine Drew, Rynn Cary, Shelby Cary, and Dominic Meister (Cherish); and great grandchildren Mason Meister and Preslie Meister.

Visitation will be at James H Davis Funeral Home this Wednesday, May 14, 2025 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm in Owensboro, Kentucky. A family graveside burial service with Pastor Myke Templeton will be at Lone Star Baptist Church Cemetery in Greenville, Kentucky.
