Federal disaster assistance is now available for residents of Daviess, McLean, Hancock, and Ohio counties following the Trump administration’s approval of Gov. Andy Beshear’s request for Individual Assistance in the aftermath of widespread flooding in April. Here’s how to apply for assistance.

The four local counties are among 24 newly approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), bringing the total number of Kentucky counties eligible for aid to 37. State and local officials have been working to assess damage since the historic rainfall and flooding earlier this spring.

“This process takes time, and we will continue to request more counties be added until everyone affected receives the support they need and deserve,” Beshear said in a statement Thursday.

Assistance may include grants for temporary housing, home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover. Those affected can apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362), or through the FEMA mobile app.

To qualify for assistance:

  • The damaged home must be the applicant’s primary residence.
  • Losses must not be covered by other sources, including insurance.
  • Applicants must provide accurate contact information and submit all required documentation.

Disaster Recovery Centers will also open in the coming days to assist with in-person applications and appeals.

The announcement follows Beshear’s April 2 declaration of a State of Emergency and subsequent activation of the State Emergency Operations Center. In the immediate aftermath of the storms, the governor also implemented price gouging protections and urged Kentuckians to report damages to local emergency management agencies.

Beshear expressed gratitude to President Donald Trump, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, and federal officials for expediting the request.

Beshear also encouraged those wishing to help with recovery to donate to the Team Kentucky Storm Relief Fund, which helps with funeral costs and other emergency needs. To donate, click here.
