Friday After 5 is back for its 29th season this week, kicking off with a full night of music, food, and family fun in downtown Owensboro. Longtime crowd favorite The Velvet Bombers will headline opening night on the Main Stage this Friday, marking their 27th appearance at the community concert series.
The Velvet Bombers are one of the original acts from FA5’s inaugural year in 1997 and have become a staple of the event’s opening night tradition. Known for their throwback rock and soul sound, the band’s return continues a nearly three-decade legacy of kicking off the city’s most iconic weekly summer series.
Friday’s festivities begin at 5 p.m. when the Kroger Street Fair opens along Veterans Boulevard between Frederica and Locust streets. Music at the Overlook Stage (located at Frederica Street and the Ohio River, also known as the Bat Wing) runs from 6-8 p.m. This week’s Overlook act is local band Roulette, who are known for high-energy sets spanning rock and pop classics. The Main Stage at McConnell Plaza will feature The Velvet Bombers from 7-10 p.m.
