The Daviess County Public Schools Board of Education on Thursday approved a 3% salary increase for all employees for the 2025-26 fiscal year, along with an additional personal day for both classified and certified staff.

The move means every eligible employee will receive the raise along with their annual step increase. Staff members will also now have three personal days per year, up from two.

“This afternoon’s unanimous vote to implement salary increases and the additional personal day for next school year displays the Board’s financial commitment. DCPS staff are well-deserving, and their commitment to work Together For Kids is much appreciated,” said DCPS Superintendent Charles Broughton.

Board members said the raise is the most that can be offered without raising taxes, and reflects a continued effort to support recruitment and retention.

Board member Trey Pippin, who campaigned in part on adding an additional personal day, said he was proud to see that included.

“When I ran for the seat, I made a commitment to support for our teachers and staff in real, tangible ways,” Pippin said. “In addition to the 3% raises … it sends a message that we’re prioritizing our people. But I also want to be honest — I know that 3% is not enough. It doesn’t fully reflect the value our teachers and our staff bring to this district, and doesn’t solve the long-term challenges that we face when it comes to recruitment and retention.”

Pippin said the board must continue discussions about modernizing benefits to stay competitive and show respect for the employees already serving the district.

“People want us to take care of those who take care of their kids,” he said. “I see [these changes] as steps, not solutions, and I’m committed to keeping this work moving forward.”

Board Chair James Morgan echoed that sentiment.

“Education is a vital component of our community, and our people choose to become teachers and work for DCPS because they are passionate about and love what they do each day,” Morgan said. “It is our job as the board to help take care of them as much as possible while also maintaining fiscal responsibility.”
