James Bernard "Bernie" Mulligan

James Bernard “Bernie” Mulligan, 64, of Owensboro, passed away on May 16, 2025. He was born, on November 3, 1960, in Daviess County to the late John Madison Mulligan Sr. and Mary Louise Dant Mulligan.

Known for his ever-present smile, tireless work ethic, and generous heart, Bernie never met a stranger and left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

A visionary and self-made entrepreneur, Bernie was the founder and owner of Kentucky Thoroughbred Feeds, a business he built from the ground up with passion and integrity. More recently, he was employed as a truck driver with Gary Murphy Transportation, where he continued to embody the dedication and drive that defined his life.

Bernie was a true jack of all trades, always busy with something—whether perfecting his yard, tackling home projects, or lending a hand to others. His love for motorcycles, boating, NASCAR, and University of Kentucky sports brought him great joy and connection with others who shared his passions.

He will be remembered as a grand man— a neighbor, a friend, and a hardworking spirit who found beauty in life’s simple pleasures and always made time to brighten someone else’s day. His legacy is one of warmth, hard work, and a genuine love for life

Along with his parents, Bernie is preceded in death by his brother, John Madison Mulligan Jr.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Vicki Cooper Mulligan; his children, Hannah Mulligan, Madison Mulligan, Brad (Megan) Payne, Jeremy Payne and Nicholas (Holly) Payne; his grandchildren, Alexis Payne, Taylor Payne and Liam Payne; siblings, Kathy (Tom) Jenny, Robert Joseph (Anne) Mulligan and Jenny (Greg) Bacon; many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his beloved pet, June Bugg.
