A preliminary report from the National Weather Service in Paducah says a brief, weak tornado touched down near Target on the south side of Owensboro.
A preliminary report is an initial summary issued by the NWS based on information gathered from external sources such as weather spotters, local officials, media, and the public. Reports remain preliminary until they are fully reviewed and certified by local and national officials, at which point they are entered into the official NWS Storm Data archive.
According to the report, the tornado touched down at 3:43 p.m. The incident was captured on a brief video by Owensboro’s Jay Newcom, who shared the footage with Owensboro Times. Watch the video here.
The extent of any damage is unknown at this time, according to the NWS.
