Jean R. Howard, 92, of Owensboro had her desire fulfilled to go home and be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Thursday, June 19, 2025, while under the excellent care of the Hospice Heartford House.
She was born April 3, 1933, with her twin sister to the late Platte and Ruth C. Riley in Paducah, Kentucky. She married Fred C. Howard, Jr. and was happily married for 48 years until his death in 2001. This family unit grew with the addition of three children, Janice Carol, Douglas Edward and Frederick Eugene. They had a strong Christian rearing from their Christian parents. Jean was a longtime member of Bellevue Baptist Church, where she served the Lord through the Children’s Ministries of Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, Hostess Committee – especially providing funeral meals, Adult Choir, Senior Adult and Quilting Ministries. She also served through the Daviess McLean Baptist Association Dental Clinic.
She helped provide for her family through private childcare, seamstress work, School Traffic Guard for the City of Owensboro and Quality Oil Company where she retired as Office Manager. In retirement, she provided private childcare and worked for Harold’s Cleaners. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, quilting, search-a-word puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and spending time with her family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, two great-grandchildren and five siblings.
She is survived by her sons, Douglas (Sherry) of Nolensville, Tennessee and Eugene (Tonya) of Philpot; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Ann Heath of Paducah; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at Bellevue Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the church.
