Battling the heat, Owensboro Catholic shot 299 to narrowly beat Madisonville by two strokes to win the Union County Invitational. The Aces sent two teams to the invitational, with their other squad finishing third after shooting 313.
Vince Hayden and John William Wathen both led the way by shooting 74, while Triston Logsdon (75), Jace Merrit (75), Andrew Powell (76), Hunter Webb (76), Tucker Evans (78), Luke Estes (79), Kyle Fulkerson (84), and Peyton Mullins (85) rounded out the two team’s scores.
“I was so proud of their efforts all day,” Owensboro Catholic head coach Bretnea Harvey said. “This was the first time we had all of our top five break 80, and I know that we have the ability to do that consistently. With seven players’ averages only separated by four strokes, I am fully anticipating consistent movement at the top five, and I’m excited to see how they continue to drive each other through the season.”
McLean County, whom was also in attendance, shot 467, with Carson Webb (102), Ian Howard (116), William Ellsworth (118), Emmit Clark (128), and Eli Reynolds (129) rounding out the team’s scores.
