A dump truck crash has closed I-165 southbound and Newbolt Road after the vehicle struck the support structure of the overpass just after 5 p.m. Monday, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the DCSO, the truck left the roadway for unknown reasons in the 6800 block of I-165 and collided with the bridge support, causing significant damage to the truck and possible damage to the bridge.
The driver sustained serious injuries, officials said. Daviess County, Masonville, and Whitesville fire departments are working to extricate him, and an Air Evac helicopter is on scene to transport him to a hospital.
Both southbound lanes of I-165 and Newbolt Road remain closed while a Kentucky Office of Highway Safety bridge inspector responds. Officials are asking motorists to use alternate routes and to check the DCSO Facebook page for updates.
