For a fourth straight year, Owensboro’s 14u tennis team won the Junior Team Tennis State Championship. The coed team, consisting mainly of 13 and 14-year-olds, cruised through pool play, beating Bowling Green 4-1, Lexington 5-0, and Louisville 4-1, before taking down a separate Louisville team 5-0 in the Championship this past Sunday. While the team has advanced to sectionals, they will not be attending, bringing an end to their season.

The Owensboro roster consists of eight players, including Henry Haines, Ollie Haines, Wally Haines, Jenna Falkner, Gabi Moyers, Lala Cecil, Brinley Sparks, and Claire Dunlay. Each match was made up of boys’ and girls’ singles, boys and girls doubles, and mixed doubles.

“It’s pretty amazing for some of them to win four straight, which is fairly unprecedented,” Owensboro coach Noel Clayton said. “They went undefeated in pool play, and then they beat the champion from the other pool on all of the courts. It was exciting and great for them to win. The advantage of junior team tennis allows the kids to have fun and keep them in the sport.”
