DCSO, DCFD respond to accident where pedestrian struck and killed on U.S. 431

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office said a man was struck and killed while walking along U.S. 431 just after midnight Monday in the Browns Valley area.

According to a release from DCSO, Owensboro–Daviess County Central Dispatch received a call at 12:06 a.m. reporting a pedestrian in the roadway in the 8400 block of U.S. 431 near the intersection of Burns Road. While deputies were en route, additional 911 calls at 12:08 and 12:10 a.m. reported the man had been struck by a vehicle in the same area.

Deputies with the DCSO’s 3rd Platoon, along with firefighters from the Daviess County and Utica fire departments, located the man deceased off the roadway. The release said witnesses attempted lifesaving measures until emergency crews arrived.

According to DCSO, the vehicle involved sustained moderate damage, though the driver and passengers were not injured. The DCSO Accident Reconstruction Unit and the Daviess County Coroner’s Office responded to investigate.

Authorities said it is unknown why the man was walking in the roadway. The area is unlit, and conditions were described as very dark at the time. Deputies said alcohol and controlled substances were not contributing factors. The investigation remains ongoing.


The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office and the Daviess County Fire Department responded to a vehicle-versus-pedestrian accident on U.S. 431 shortly after midnight.

According to DCSO, the accident occurred between KY 298 (Hill Bridge Road) and East Marksberry Road. As of 12:40 a.m., authorities said the roadway would be shut down for an unknown amount of time while emergency personnel and the DCSO accident reconstruction team work the scene.
