A man wanted in Florida for multiple violent crimes, including murder, was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Owensboro with assistance from the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, according to law enforcement officials.

A release says that 25-year-old Trai’xon D. Smith, of Jacksonville, Florida, was taken into custody around 3:30 p.m. by the U.S. Marshals Service and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, with assistance from DCSO and the Henderson and Glasgow police departments.

Smith was located on Starlite Drive on the west side of Owensboro, according to DCSO. Officials said officers had been surveilling him and waited until there were no children in his vehicle before making the arrest.

Smith was taken by DCSO to the Daviess County Detention Center, where he is awaiting extradition to Florida, officials said. He faces several charges stemming from alleged crimes committed in October 2024.

The release listed his charges as:

  • Two counts of first-degree attempted murder
  • Second-degree murder
  • Armed burglary with assault or battery
  • Attempted armed robbery
  • Aggravated assault
