The Daviess County Emergency Management Agency has cancelled the “shelter in place” recommendation. Officials said the Kentucky Division of Air Quality has performed several tests in Daviess County and indicated the recommendation was no longer needed.

The Daviess County Emergency Management Agency has recommended a voluntary “shelter in place” for Daviess County residents due to the massive chemical fire in Newburgh, Indiana.

“Based on the air quality readings in Indiana, we do not believe there is an immediate danger, but out of an abundance of caution, until the air monitoring equipment operated by the Kentucky Division of Air Quality is in place and verifies the all clear, this voluntary shelter in place recommendation will remain in effect,” officials said in a statement.

Shelter in place means remaining indoors, closing all exterior windows and doors, and turning off all air conditioning units.
