
James R. “Jim” Penny, 71, of Owensboro, passed away Friday, July 5, 2019 under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born in Henderson, Kentucky to the late James R. and Sophia Sue Book Penny.
Jim was a U.S. Army veteran with military police experience. He was honorably discharged in 1970.
Most of Jim’s career was mechanical maintenance and steel fabrication. His skills were sought after by a wide variety of companies until he retired in 2014. He was a long-time and active member of Christ Community Church and a member of Faith Riders Motorcycle Ministry, the Patriot Guard, Emmaus Community, Man Up Monday and the small churches of Matthew’s Table. Jim looked for opportunities to serve the Lord and noticed those who often go unnoticed.
He is survived by his wife of thirty-three years, Lorinda Talbott Penny; a son, Robert Penny and his wife, Heather of Owensboro; and grandchildren, Jaxson, Jayden, Zoe and Cruz.
The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 10 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory where visitation will be Tuesday from 2:00 until 8:00 PM and Wednesday after 9:00 AM. Burial will be at Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery in Philpot.
