Daviess County wasted no time taking control Friday night, forcing turnovers on Central Hardin’s first two possessions and turning them into quick touchdowns on the way to a 58-8 victory.

The Panthers jumped ahead 16-0 less than two minutes into the game. Ridge Roberts broke free for a 43-yard touchdown run following a fumble recovery, and moments later, quarterback Garrison Barker connected with Jace Hunt for a 28-yard score after another Central Hardin miscue. Parker Higginbotham added a defensive touchdown later in the first quarter, falling on a fumble in the end zone to push the lead to 24-0.

Barker was sharp all night, completing 12 of 16 passes for 296 yards and four touchdowns without an interception. Hunt caught five passes for 163 yards and three scores, while Hunter Corbin added 94 receiving yards and a touchdown. Roberts finished with 91 rushing yards and a score.

The defense chipped in as well. Jaleel Carter had an interception in the second quarter, and Corbin returned a pick 61 yards for a touchdown in the fourth to cap the blowout.

Central Hardin’s lone highlight came in the second quarter when Arthur Worlobah scored on a 2-yard run, with Conner Dupin adding the two-point conversion. The Bruins managed just 155 yards of total offense compared to Daviess County’s 400.

Head coach Quadarius Wallace praised his team’s all-around effort.

“We played well in all three phases. Garrison played well. The O-line played well. The run game set up the pass,” Wallace said. “Defensively, we swarmed the ball, and that generated some turnovers for us. Two picks, one for a TD, and a fumble recovery for a touchdown as well. Special teams got us the ball back and helped our offense get going. Asher did a great job kicking!”

Wallace added that while the win was convincing, there’s still work to do.

“We still had too many penalties. We have to be sharper and more disciplined,” he said. “Right now, we are 1-0 in the district. I’m not sure how the other game went, but we have to be ready for Meade coming to town in two weeks. But that was a great win to kick off district play.”

With the win, Daviess County improved to 4-3. The Panthers return home next week to face Meade County in a game that will play a major role in dictating their playoff fate.
