Owensboro Health is partnering with the Kentucky Cancer Program (KCP) to host a series of free “Love Your Lungs” events this week, aimed at raising awareness about lung health, prevention, and early detection.
The weeklong initiative will feature stops in Henderson, Madisonville, Muhlenberg County, Leitchfield, and Breckinridge County. Each event is open to the public and will include interactive and educational opportunities focused on lung wellness.
Attendees can explore KCP’s six-foot inflatable lung exhibit, which demonstrates the effects of conditions such as cancer, COPD, pneumonia, and bronchitis. Clinical teams will offer oxygen-level screenings, radon education, and a cancer-screening checklist, as well as resources for COPD, lung cancer, and smoking cessation.
Tobacco treatment specialists and respiratory therapists will be available to answer questions, and participants can also receive pneumonia, RSV, and flu vaccines while supplies last. Nutrition and fitness tips for maintaining healthy lungs will also be shared.
“November is COPD and Lung Cancer Awareness Month, and it allows us to shine a light on two conditions that impact so many families in our community,” said Stephanie Allen, RN, BSN, Manager of Population Health at Owensboro Health. “Love Your Lungs is about meeting people where they are, listening to their needs, and offering compassionate, practical support. From education about lung cancer screening to resources that help people quit tobacco and breathe easier, our goal is to empower our community to take confident, positive steps toward better lung health.”
