The Owensboro Area World Affairs Council (OAWAC) will close out its 2025 programming season on Thursday with a festive and educational event exploring Christmas traditions around the globe.
Dr. Lesley Pleasant, professor of German at the University of Evansville, will present “Jingle All the Way: A Global Sleigh Ride through Christmas Customs and History” at 7 p.m. at Owensboro Community and Technical College’s Advanced Technology Center in Room 107.
OAWAC member Kevin Dorth said the event will serve as the final program of the year and offer a more relaxed tone compared to their traditional global affairs topics.
“This promises to be a light-hearted and fun presentation, which is a nice way to close out our year,” Dorth said.
Pleasant received her bachelor’s degree in German studies from Dartmouth College and both her master’s and Ph.D. in German literature from the University of Virginia. Her teaching and research interests span German language and culture, 19th- to 21st-century drama and literature, international film, and environmental humanities.
In addition to the presentation, attendees can enjoy a selection of festive holiday cookies provided by OAWAC.
A remote attendance option will be available via Zoom, though Dorth encouraged in-person attendance “so you don’t miss out on the cookies.”
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, email OAWAC at [email protected] or visit the organization’s Facebook page.
