Girls’ basketball roundup: December 29

Daviess County and Trinity (Whitesville) both won, while Hancock County fell in the Dairy Queen Classic.

Daviess County 53, Marshall County 49

Kennedy Lane hit two threes to go along with her team-high 20 points to power Daviess County past Marshall County 53-49. Riley Hayden added 19 points, and Maddie Barron and Briley Henry both had five points. The Lady Panthers finished their Firstbank Holiday Bash Tournament run 3-0.

“I am very proud of our fight. We fought through a lot of adversity, played with our backs against the wall, yet found a way to finish strong,” Daviess County Head Coach Natalie Payne said. “Marshall County is a well-oiled machine, and they were not going down without a fight.”

Ohio County 53, Hancock County 49

Carolina Jones had 16 points and four assists, and Jordyn Waltrip scored nine points in the Lady Hornets 53-49 loss to Ohio County. Madyson Higdon and Ansley House both had eight points and eight rebounds.

Trinity (Whitesville) 66, Hart County 56

Preslee Meserve hit two threes to go along with her team-high 20 points, and Oliva Starks had 18 points in the Lady Raiders 66-56 win over Hart County. Ry’Lynne Meserve scored nine of her 11 points in the second half, and Ella Morris added 10 points.

“We put defensive pressure on for 32 minutes. We told the girls at halftime that although we were down by six, to continue the pressure and work together,” Trinity (Whitesville) Head Coach Emily Hernandez said. “The girls worked diligently for 32 minutes and stayed focused when Hart County made runs and answered by getting paint touches and good shots.”
