Daviess County’s Jaxson Unsel has signed with Campbellsville University to continue his bowling and academic career. The senior has helped the Panthers’ bowling team morph into one of the top teams in the region.
With a desire to stay in the state of Kentucky and with plenty of his friends already attending, Unsel knew Campbellsville was the place for him.
“I took a couple of tours before to Union and Midway, and both are great schools,” Unsel said. “I went to Campbellsville, and I just felt comfortable. I have some friends going there for baseball, and a friend going there for wrestling. I just felt very welcomed. It’s a Christian school, which is a big thing for me. It is very faith based, and a big part of my life is my faith, and it is somewhere where I can really grow that.”
Relatively new to competitive bowling, it has been a whirlwind eight months for the senior. In February of 2025, Unsel began working at Diamond Lanes South, and about a month later, he entered the bowling world. He quickly picked up the sport, and a few people in his inner circle convinced him to join the high school team in an attempt to reach the collegiate level.
“I spoke with Deghen Riggs, who bowls at Campbellsville, and a few of my coworkers who bowl collegiately and asked if it was possible for me to bowl at the college level,” Unsel said. “They said it was definitely possible, and they see the possibility in me to make it there. When I heard that there was a chance I could make it, I really locked in, started grinding, and joined the high school team. It is all working out pretty well.”
Unsel had multiple schools on his radar, including Union Commonwealth University, Midway University, and Brescia University.
He also plans to major in business with a concentration in entrepreneurship and minor in sports management, with a goal of hopefully opening his own gym chain.
“When I signed that paper, the realization felt in that I was officially at the next level,” Unsel said. “My goal was always to be another level higher than high school, and it feels great.”
