John August Goetz, 78, of Whitesville, passed away at his home surrounded by his family and loved ones on Friday, February 27, 2026. John was born on October 16, 1947 to the late John August Sr., and Martine Alvey Goetz. He started his hardworking life as a carpenter, then spent most of his life as a farmer, and raising cattle. He enjoyed farm life, his family, and especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his beloved sister, Becky McBrayer.
John is survived by his children, Jeff (Roxi) Goetz and Lane (Joe) Brasher; grandchildren, Austin (Kaitlin), Logan (Avery), Jack (Mattie), Caleb, Ben, Nick and Lilly Goetz, Rachel (Zachary) Smith , Megan, Emma and John Brasher; great-grandchildren, Mabel, Amelia, Hazel, Kipton, Theodore and Finnegan; siblings, Brenda (Joe) Bean, David (Cindy Mattingly) Goetz, Sandy (Tony) Lanham, Rick Goetz and Kim (Bill) Mills and his special friends and caregivers, Bobby Morris, Tammy Lane, Susan Higdon and Louann Bozarth.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Whitesville, KY, with burial following at St. Mary of the Woods. Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with prayers 6:30 p.m. at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville.
