Traveling to Elizabethtown over the weekend, Owensboro Catholic tennis kicked off their season at the Elizabethtown Jamboree, with the boys going undefeated at 3-0 and the girls finishing 2-1.
“It was a tough tournament, especially just weeks into the season,” Owensboro Catholic Boys Head Coach Branden Haines said. “Playing three very strong teams in one day really tested the kids both physically and mentally right out of the gate.”
The Aces beat Trinity 3-2, Elizabethtown 4-1, and McCracken County 3-2. Jack Haines finished 3-0 in his singles matches, Henry Haines went 2-0, and Ollie Haines and Joseph Merchant both went 1-0. In the doubles matches, the duo of Ben Haines and Luke Pfiefer went 2-0, while Adam Schartung and Nick Williams went 1-0.
“We did a great job holding our singles line. We didn’t drop a court all day,” Haines said. “We’re still working through our doubles combinations and mixed things up throughout the tournament.”
For the Lady Aces, they lost to McCracken County 3-2, but beat Assumption 3-2 and Elizabethtown 4-1.
